Mens Dress Shirts are the modern, stylish, everlasting man’s clothing that a man can’t live without. With jeans and a nice blazer are great! Mens Dress Shirts combine classic good looks with modern day comfort and their story has centuries of different variations that followed any man during different events of his life, from formal evenings to home comfort.
A dress shirt in American English is a shirt with a collar, a full-length opening at the front from the collar to the hem, and sleeves with cuffs. Dress shirts are predominantly used by men, since women usually wear blouses.
In the UK, the term dress shirt is reserved for a particular type of formal shirt. There are formal day shirts for wearing with morning dress, and the white dress shirts used as eveningwear. A day dress shirt is fairly similar to a normal shirt, and is usually white, with a stiff detachable collar.
An evening shirt, for wear with eveningwear, for example as part of black or white tie has some unique features. In the U.S., this shirt is often called a tuxedo shirt. The shirt is always white.
Shirts are made of woven cloth. The natural fibers used in the past were cotton, the most frequent, linen, the oldest, ramie, wool or silk. Nowadays, artificial fibers such as polyester or polyester blends are often used, due to their low cost, despite being considered by most shirtmakers the poorest material, owing to less softness and breathability.
How do you know if your dress shirt is fitting perfectly? You have to check first of all the the flap of fabric around your neck: the famous Collar. The perfect fitted collar should have at least about half an inch more than the neck size. This is to avoid being choked by your own clothes.
Next you have to check the Torso: there should still be at least an inch of breathing room inside the shirt when it is full-buttoned. Last but not least, the Sleeves: men have different arm length and body proportion. Just check that the end of the sleeves reach the wrist as the arms are hanging down.
Remember, the man who takes care with proportion in his suits and dress shirts always looks good. In theory not easy, since dress shirts are cut for hypothetical models, but if you learn the proportions you can really have a perfect look, whatever style you’ll decide to be good for your appearance and personality.
